COVID Positive Students
We continue to have a few students daily testing positive to COVID-19. Further RAT tests are available from the office, and we ask that if your child does test positive that you ring the school office and inform us so that we can code these absences correctly and inform the classroom teacher.
If you feel your child requires further work whilst they isolate, a work grid is on Compass or please contact your classroom teacher via Compass.
Vaccination requirements for visitors and volunteers performing work
The third dose vaccination requirements apply to any visitors or volunteers performing work on school sites. This includes:
- a person contracted to work at an education facility and who will or may be in close proximity to children, students or staff, whether or not engaged by the education operator including casual relief teachers, NDIS providers and auditors (but does not include delivery personnel)
- Department staff who attend an education facility (such as allied health personnel)
- staff of any other entity who attends an education facility
- volunteers that attend an education facility and that work in close proximity to children, students or staff (including parent helpers)
- students on placements at an education facility
Vaccination requirements for other visitors to schools (not performing work)
Parents, carers and other adult visitors are no longer required to show evidence of two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine if not performing work or volunteering at the school.
Rapid Antigen Test Kits
The use of rapid antigen tests (RATs) as a screening tool for COVID will continue at least for the first 4 weeks of this term. Free rapid antigen tests will continue to be available for all staff and students in Victorian schools for the first four weeks of Term 2, 2022. Rapid antigen testing will continue to be voluntary but strongly encouraged for all students and staff.
If you need a RAT kit for your child, please come to the office and ask for a box.
Reporting a Positive Covid Result
If students receive a positive test result at any time, this must be reported to Coronavirus Vic or via the coronavirus hotline at 1800 675 398.
Students (or their parents) must also report a positive result to the school, by phone or email to cairnlea.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au. Positive students will be absent for their 7-day isolation period. The rest of the school community will be notified via Compass that there has been a positive case onsite and that they should monitor for symptoms.
Extension of the RAT Screening Program
Thank you for your work in ensuring our school has remained safe during Term 1.
The Victorian Government has announced it is extending the RAT screening program for the first 4 weeks of Term 2. Thank you to all students and families who have played their role in regularly testing – we know that hasn’t been easy.
Your work has seen COVID-19 cases being picked up at the earliest opportunity, meaning less cases in our school and more time in the classroom for our students.
The testing recommendations will remain the same next Term for students and staff with:
- Mainstream schools – recommended to test at home twice a week
- Specialist schools – recommended to test 5 days a week at home due to the higher risk of severe illness for medically vulnerable children
Yesterday (Wednesday 6th April 2022) we sent home with your child two boxes of the RATS for you to use over the holiday period. On return to school for Term 2, we will send home another two packs for the first two weeks of the term.
As we approach winter and flu season, the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 and booster shots for students 16+ remains the best way to ensure protection for students and staff. The Easter break is a good opportunity to get your child vaccinated ahead of this, with many options across GPs, pharmacies and the state run vaccination clinics.
If you have any concerns or worries about getting your child vaccinated, please get in contact with your GP or another health professional who can answer your concerns.
Thank you again for all your support over Term 1, we couldn’t have done it without you.
