Supporting CyberSafe Behaviour

Supporting CyberSafe Behaviour

The Dept of Education has asked that we share the following information with our community:

Schools are reminded to ensure students understand they should not sign up to external social media applications, such as Discord, using their school credentials.
Discord is a chat-based social network, targeted at gamers and primarily for adults. Some schools have recently been associated with inappropriate online behaviour, including cyber-bullying and exposure to offensive material, after students signed up to Discord using their school email address.
Discord has already been blocked across the department’s network, including student email services.

Information to help parents understand about Discord is available at: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/parents-ultimate-guide-to-discord

Parents can access resources and supporting information to ensure their child remains cyber-safe through the parents page on the Office of the eSafety Commissioner’s website.
If you have any concerns about the use of digital technologies, I encourage you to speak to your child’s teacher, ICT Leading Teacher Ian Narracott or Assistant Principal Lesley Besanko.
